Strauch Drum Carders
These are the finest carders I have ever used. The workmanship is superb,
and the end product is a joy to spin. Clean up is a breeze as you don't have
to clean all that build-up from the little licker in drum. These are available
for all spinners needs from those who process just one fleece a year to those who do many! And
don't be afraid to use it for your angora and other fine wools, they will do
a supurb job!
I have been personally using both the Finest and the Petite for carding angora and silk. Both do an unbelievable job. If you are a small time carder the Petite is for you. It does an amazing job with no effort at all. And if you are a heavy duty processor the Finest would be the best choice. Again it takes no effort to card and the end product is just the best. I can't say enough about the workmanship and performance of these carders.
Cleaning Drum Carders
As I am sure you now know, one should never run greasy fiber through any drum carder. The grease coats the pins of the large drum and makes quite a mess.
However, the drum can be cleaned:
Lightly spray the drum with rubbing alcohol and quickly card enough clean fiber to completely cover the drum. Note- do not soak the drum or you may soften the backing holding the pins of the card cloth.
Again, spray the drum containing the fiber and card more fiber to add another layer to the drum.
Repeat one more time.
Now, spray the batt on the drum once more with rubbing alcohol and remove the batt. Use you doffer brush to clean off any fiber left on the drum.
Run another batch of fiber through the carder to remove any residual rubbing alcohol left on the drum.
The drum should now be clean.
